Malvern Loses Heartbreaker

To start off the 2012 football season, both Malvern and Roman Catholic would begin in a very unfamiliar location. They began their season in Wildwood, New Jersey for an epic season opener on Labor Day Weekend. The highly touted Roman team entered the game as No. 6 in the Pennsylvania state rankings. Unfortunately for them, Malvern came ready and scored first with a touchdown run by fullback Connor Bohs.

After Roman responded with their own touchdown drive, Malvern came back with consecutive rushing touchdowns by running back Eric Purnell, making the score 21-7. Roman simply refused to go away after a kick return for a touchdown cut Malvern’s lead in half. Malvern made it a 2-score game again when Bill Ford led a drive down the field connected with Ryan Ammerman for a 20-yard score. The extra point, however, was blocked. That proved to be a turning point as Roman came back with consecutive 4thquarter touchdown drives to make the score 28-27 in favor of Roman. That score would end up being the final, as Malvern came so close to knocking off one of the Pennsylvania’s top teams. However, they did rebound a week later with a win against Coatesville High School, 19-14. This season will be a very interesting one to see and stay tuned for further updates.
