Interpreting Your Schedule

new+schedule
new schedule

The BFC staff offers this quick start-up to help you understand what’s going on at the beginning of the school year.

No matter how you first looked at your schedule, you probably had lots of questions. Let’s go through the Backpack schedule and break it down, hour by hour.

Full Class Rotation

Essentially, your classes go in an eight day rotation. You have eight carriers (classes) total, in a typical schedule. You have five classes each day, and the classes keep going in the same order as you progress through the eight day cycle.

It looks like this:

Day 1: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

Day 2: 6, 7, 8, 1, 2

Day 3: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

Day 4: 8, 1, 2, 3, 4

Day 5: 5, 6, 7, 8 , 1

Day 6, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Day 7: 7, 8, 1, 2, 3

Day 8: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8

When navigating backpack, to see this follow these steps:

Login > Academic > Student Schedule > List View > Click “Day 1” > This will show you the direct order of your classes. > Click each following day to see the order of your classes on that day.

Periods of  the Day

The following is an A schedule set-up.

Period 1  (8:15 – 9:15)

This is a one hour full class that lines up with your rotation.

Community Time  (9:15 – 10:15)

9:15 – 9:30 – Mandatory Homeroom Meeting Time (All Homerooms)

9:15 – 9:45 – Specialty Homeroom Meeting Time

9:45 – 10:15 – Homework / Extra Help / Break

Period 2 (10:15-11:35)

This is another full class period, for 80 minutes.

Period 3  (11:35 – 1:15)

Period 3 is a combination of your third class and lunch. Whether you have first or third (middle schoolers take second) depends on what class you have in that block.

If you have: Theology, Science, History, or English:

11:35-12:10 – Lunch (35 minutes)

12:10-1:15 – Class (65 minutes)

If you have:  Math, Language, Study Hall, Art, Health/PE, Computer Science, or Counseling:

11:35 – 12:40 – Class (65 minutes)

12:40-1:15 – Lunch (35 minutes)

Period 4   (1:15 – 2:15)

60 minute class period

Period 5  (2:15 – 3:10)

55 minute class period

What about Homerooms?

Homerooms have moved to the first part of community time.  There is no homeroom from 8:05-8:25 anymore; instead, you report directly to your first period at 8:15 AM.

Regular homerooms (9:15-9:30)

Specialty homerooms (9:15-9:45)

Academic credit can be earned in certain specialty homerooms.  Attendance remains mandatory for homeroom.

Counseling

Once a cycle, counseling will take place during one of your eight classes – the period you normally have study hall.

Two new counselors have been hired to facilitate additional counseling meetings and a counseling curriculum.

A lot has changed and may still be uncertain. But one thing is for sure, when you leave from the first week of the school year, you will have a different image of a Malvern school day in mind.

Thank you Matt for looking at the schedule. This first week needs to be a joint effort of student, teacher and administration to get it right. Patience, a real virtue, will be pivotal in this endeavor.
