With currently twenty-one D-1 recruits on the roster, this year’s varsity lacrosse team promises to have an exciting season. Not only are they ranked 23rd in the country by Nike/US Lacrosse, but Coach John McEvoy is returning as head coach. He stepped down in 2009, but after four years and three different coach changes, he is finally back.
But of course a team is nothing without its players. They have been working extremely hard during the off season to get ready for the few months ahead. They all love the game, and are constantly practicing before and after school hours. We can expect great things to come out of this season.
“Some are calling us the redeem team. I’m not for it or against it, but it’s accurate.” Andy Johnson, Class of 2013, says.
The Inter-Ac league is the second best in the country with Haverford and Episcopal ranked in the top 25 by Under Armour. Naturally the Friars will have many tough fights ahead of them.
The team will scrimmage another fellow Augustinian school, St. Augustine’s Prep, on March 7th in New Jersey. No doubt there will be much Unitas, Veritas, and Caritas during the game. The first real game is on March 14th against Tower Hill School at home at 4:00 PM. Show your support for our fellow Friars, and go see the home opener!
