Clemson Baseball commit Lonnie White ’21 receives multiple Division 1 Offers for Football
Following an incredible football season, Lonnie has received offers from some of the top programs in the country.
An offer to play one D1 sport is impressive, and offers for multiple sports is extremely rare, but Lonnie White makes it look easy.
After a fantastic season playing varsity baseball as a freshman, Lonnie committed to Clemson University in October of his sophomore year. This, by itself, is a tremendous accomplishment, but Lonnie doesn’t just play baseball: he’s a multi-sport athlete.
This fall, Lonnie was the starting quarterback for the Friars, finding success passing as well as running the ball himself. In his 7 games, he ran for over 1000 yards and 16 touchdowns.
“He’s very focused and competitive, he wants to win,” said head football coach Dave Gueriera. “He’s a guy who leads by example, he doesn’t have to be super vocal because he leads with his work ethic.”
Lonnie has received offers from schools including Maryland, Toledo, Boston College, Buffalo, Kent State, as well as many others. Next season will most likely bring more and more schools to Malvern to see Lonnie play.
“A lot of colleges are watching Lonnie’s film and seeing what an incredible athlete he is,” Gueriera said. “The coaches’ focuses have shifted to the 2021 class and they can see his skills are different than most.”
Not only a talented athlete, Lonnie is also well-liked and respected by his teammates for both sports.
“It’s unbelievable watching him develop into a great quarterback and teammate,” said defensive lineman Chance Steele ’22. “He’s more than a leader, I see him as a brother I always look up to him.”
“It’s always a good time with Lonnie, he’s a fun guy to be around,” said infielder and pitcher Jarod Wade ’20.
Dominic Chieffalo ’21, also an infielder and pitcher, said “He’s hilarious and a hard worker and a great guy to play with.”
With spring sports starting up, Lonnie and the baseball team hope to bring back another state title to Malvern.
