This school year during the month of February, the middle school read books for the Ronald McDonald house in Philadelphia. Middle school students read for 15 minutes a day during Community Block, and their parents and relatives donated money to the Ronald McDonald house to help kids and adults with cancer.
Mrs. Tyoe, who ran Read for the House, said this about the money this service project raised: “The Read for the House raised $10,207.98 and two students raised over $1,000, and in 2022 Read for the House raised $3,255.” Adding onto why Malvern does Read for the House, Mrs. Tyoe commented, “We read for the house because we help the less fortunate which is important to the three core values of Malvern Prep, and because Jim Murray P’88 GP’16 co-founded the Ronald McDonald house and is on the wall of distinction.”
Personally, I feel that this event was great because it got many people back into reading books. We also did this event to help many people who have cancer. This event has happened for many years and we should continue this tradition again for many more years.
