Vic Maggiti > CSI??

After a long and very visible construction process prominently on the campus quad, the new Vic Maggitti Pavilion is finally open and being used to the best of its ability.
Vic Maggiti > CSI??

The Vic Maggitti Pavilion is a brand new campus space funded by Mr. Vic Maggitti, who donated six million dollars to Malvern. It is already loved by students, faculty, and staff. This brand-new space provides Malvern with bright new spaces for Learning Support, the Counseling Suite, and even quiet spaces to get work done. Unlike the St. Augustine Center for Social Impact (CSI), the basement of the Maggitti Pavilion has a no-cell phone policy, allowing students zero distractions while working.

Dr. Dlugos, an Upper School Learning Specialist, is located in the basement of the Maggitti and is very excited to have a space dedicated to quiet study and work support.

“At Malvern, we have a lot of collaborative spaces, which [is] wonderful, but we also need spaces where students can study, read, [and] complete homework in a quiet environment,” Dr. Dlugos said.

Mrs. Cox, also an Upper School Learning Specialist, has seen a big improvement in students and their use of the space.

“I think [this space] will help with time management because you’ll have time at school to complete some work, particularly if you have a learning block. [It’s a place] to work, since we don’t have a library on campus. We are excited to see, especially the upperclassman using their free block [to come here]. They have the freedom to go anywhere they want, so to see the students choose this quiet spot, we’re excited to see that happening,” Mrs. Cox said.

Although many upper school students have been using this space every day, there’s also a space for middle schoolers on the opposite side, where they can meet with learning support and get their work done. Mrs. Krause, a Middle School Learning Specialist, included how the Pavilion helps every Friar.

Mrs. Krause, the Middle School Learning Specialist, has a different point of view because she works in middle school.

“[The Maggitti] provides a wonderful space for kids to come in and work with, either myself or Mrs. Trainor. It also gives a quiet environment where they can access different resources, but also be in a space where they can feel like if they need help, they can come to ask for help, and it’s just been a wonderful addition to our space,” Mrs. Krause said.

Mrs. Sarafinas, the Counseling Coordinator, is very happy to see the Counseling Suite being used by students and teachers during community time, lunch, and open periods. She loves it when the space is filled with people.

“There are not enough words to describe the beauty and wonder of this new space that we’ve been blessed with. The space provides students, faculty, and staff with multi-purpose things. We have college counseling, school counseling, and student quiet spaces. We’ll [also] have college visit space for r

epresentatives to come in,” Mrs. Sarafinas said.

Mrs. Folan, Head of Character Development and Wellness, shares her views on the Vic Maggitti basement and its purpose.

“One of the goals of this space is that students can go and focus, so eliminating even more of those distractions, the noise is automatic because it’s quiet,” Mrs. Folan said.

Mr. Simpson, Director of School Counseling, has dreamed of this space and is very excited it is finally a reality.

“We wanted to create this open kind of informal area, f

or students to come in and hang out or do homework or just a quiet place to study, but it also provides opportunities for meetings. It’s not a quiet zone. So they can talk, have fun, and relax,” Mr. Simpson said.

The Vic Maggitti Pavilion is already a big hit on campus and is being utilized by students and faculty alike. It will surely be well-loved and employed for study and brotherhood for many years.
