On November 21st, the middle school hosted its second annual video game tournament in Stewart Hall just after lunch. Around 15-25 students attend the event. Video game tournaments are a great way to give students moments of relief from the stress of school.
In the past the game of choice was Super Smash Bros, but this was the first time that Mario Kart 8 was used for the tournament. The tournament was split into four groups and two groups played at a time. Each group participated in four races. Trevor O’Hair, Michael Walton, and Jack Coleman were all undefeated. In an interview with Michael Walton, when he was asked about his strategy to win, he said, “My strategy to win was taking advantage of the drift boost when other players were not using it.” Later when he was asked how long he has been playing Mario Kart, he said, “I’ve been playing Mario Kart 8 for at least 7 years. The first time I played the game was when I got my Nintendo Switch back in 2017 and I’ve never stopped playing since.”
Every year four video game tournaments are hosted in middle school. If you are interested in joining one, be on the lookout for sign ups in your email. They are always an enjoyable experience and are highly recommended. Hope to see you at the next one Friars!
