During the Winter of 2025, the Malvern Prep Middle School staged a musical. Many Malvern, Villa Maria, and St. Pat’s students showed exceptional acting talents. Along with the actors, nine students from Malvern were involved behind the scenes, moving heavy sets so that it could happen.
Hearing from Middle School students after the play, many enjoyed it. Canyon Coolidge said it was so enjoyable, from the humor to the singing, and all of the dedication the students showed. He also added, “It was very smooth and all of the acts weaved together and made a bunch of sense.”
The play had many songs, most of which were from the original Spongebob episode, and the sets looked like they took a lot of thought and effort. Sam Yim shared that some of the parts of the set that he had to move were very heavy, around 100 pounds. On the set, there were also flights of stairs that were about 20 feet in the air, which students from the stage crew had to move around so that actors could stand on them.
Mr. DelPizzo, the Director of Music and Assistant Director of Choreography, talked about the play. Mr. Del highlighted that every person who was in the play had to rehearse for many months. He added, “the most important rehearsals were during tech week, the week before the play. When asked about how he felt about the performance, he said “seeing the final product was the most enjoyable part to witness.” Additionally, Mr. Del gave lots of props to all the students, as he was beyond amazed about how talented the students in the play were.
If the Malvern Theatre Society interests you there is a high school play in the spring. Also, if you want to get involved in theater, you can participate through stage crew, ushering, concessions, and more.
