Each grade in the middle school went on either a field trip or retreat on Wednesday, April 30th. The 6th grade went on a trip to the Constitution Center, the 7th grade went on a trip to the Franklin Institute, and the 8th Grade went to a retreat at Villanova University. The students all enjoyed this time away from school engaging in learning experiences and reflecting spiritually. Although each grade went somewhere different, every grade bonded.
Mrs. Reynolds organized the seventh grade field trip. She explained that we go on field trips because the teachers want the student body to learn more about what they have learned in the classroom and connect it to the real world. Moving on to the actual trip, which Mrs. Reynolds chaperoned, she was asked what she looked forward to before going on the trip. She emphasized that even though she has been to the Franklin Institute several times, she always enjoys walking through the heart and looks forward to seeing the planetarium show. Next, when asked about why the seventh grade went to the Franklin Institute, Mrs. Reynolds touched on the fact that the seventh grade has been learning all about the solar system and movement, which the Franklin Institute touches on, and beyond the things students learned.
Next, a seventh grader, Canyon Coolidge, was interviewed about the trip. When asked about something he learned on this trip, he explained that he learned about some of the furthest stars away from Earth and what is inside Saturn’s rings. Next, he emphasized that he enjoyed the sports area and tried to jump as high as he could. Canyon next talked about why it was important to go on this trip. “I think it was important because we learned more about space, and we also learned about space in Science.” Finally, Canyon was asked if he would go back to the Franklin Institute or not. He explained that he would not go back to the Franklin Institute because he has been there many times and has now pretty much seen everything there, but he still really enjoys it there. “But if they added something new, I might check it out,” he added.
The seventh graders learned about different organs in our body, like the heart and brain, and also a lot about space, which was the goal of the trip. The seventh-grade field trip to the Franklin Institute was a great experience for both the faculty and the students.
