Morning Announcements 1.30.14

Good Morning Malvern! Today is Thursday, January 30.

It is a Day 2, A Schedule.

**World Affairs Club**

The World Affairs Club will meet during 9th period today in Carney 301. All members

are expected to attend. Please be prompt.

**Sailing Team**

Tomorrow in the Maker Lab during Break, there will be an organizational meeting for all

who are interested in joining the Sailing Team. Doughnuts will be served.

**Speech and Debate Team**

Tomorrow, during ninth period, there will be a mandatory meeting for all speech and

debate members who will be competing in the tournament on February 6 at Marple

Newtown HS. The meeting will be in Carney 303. If you want to compete in this

tournament but cannot attend the meeting, you must email Mrs. Kenworthey or speak

with her directly before Thursday.

**Distinguished Speaker Series**

On March 27, Malvern will host its second Distinguished Speaker Series event featuring

Adam Bryant, who conducts the New York Times “Corner Office” interviews on

executive leadership.

In conjunction with this event, Mr. Talbot has extended an offer to participate in a unique

leadership opportunity.

If you are interested, please submit a one-page essay to Mrs. Dresden

([email protected]) no later than 3 pm on Friday, January 31. Your one-
pager should address the following:

● Are you willing to read Mr. Bryant’s book The Corner Office?

● Are you willing to serve on a team of three students to design and execute

a project that reflects your team’s understanding of some key element of

leadership?

● Read any three interviews from “Corner Office,” and then draw connections to

your own academic, athletic, and/or activities experiences at Malvern Prep.

● Conclude with 3-5 essential questions on leadership prompted by your “Corner

Office” readings. These should be questions that you would like to investigate

further.

This opportunity is open to all Upper School students.

**Physics Olympics**

Physics Olympics will begin meeting again to prepare for the final meet on Saturday

March 1st at Interboro HS. Meetings will take place in Sullivan 341 during 9th period on

Mondays and Wednesdays.

If you are interested in building a basswood bridge or an electric car for the competition,

please see Mrs. Mulcahy to obtain the materials and copy of the rules.

**Championship Jackets**

GOLF, WATER POLO and CROSS COUNTRY Championship Jackets have arrived.

Please stop by the Campus Store to pick up your jacket.

**Learning Commons**

On February 10, the Learning Commons will close after 5th period due to parent/

teacher conferences.
