MP Lacrosse Update: Week 2

Malvern Lacrosse has had a lightning fast start to the season. After a win in a scrimmage against Tower Hill School, we beat a tough Radnor team 5-4 thanks to an impressive defensive stand near the end in our second scrimmage. Then, we had our first game on March 16th against a nationally ranked Loyola-Blakefield (MD) team. Snow was falling on the ground as we prepared for perhaps the coldest home game in Malvern Lacrosse history. However, it did not affect Malvern’s play very much. With early goals by Tommy O’Connor and Greg Pelton, we got off to a fast start. After that, the defense took control, led by Matt Barrett’s eleven saves. The final score was 11-6. Along with JV’s overtime victory, we swept Loyola Blakefield.

After a victory in a scrimmage against Wilmington Friends (DE), we turned our attention to Bullis School (MD). The game would be played without two very important players, Matt Barrett and Joe Dunn. However, we won the game at Johns Hopkins with smothering defense by all three defensemen in a 7-4 victory. On March 23rd, we had a scrimmage against the third ranked team in the nation, Deerfield Academy (MA), at Princeton. Our offense proved to be overwhelming in this one, winning 11-6. Looking ahead, we play Seton Hall Prep on Thursday. Also, we play St. Mary’s (MD), Salesianum (DE), and West Chester East (all at home) over spring break before our Inter-Ac season begins. Come watch and see for yourself!
