Wing Bowl attendance challenged by administration

Friday, January 31st is the 22nd annual Wing Bowl, sponsored by 94.1 WIP. For those who don’t know, this notorious event begins bright and early at 6 AM. Philly legends such as Matt Stairs and Jason Kelce are just a few of the many local celebrities attending the chicken wing eating competition.

Wing Bowl is a part of the Super Bowl weekend for many in the area, and a solid portion of students feel that attending this event is a Malvern tradition and right of passage. However, on Monday, January 27th, Mr. Dougherty sent out an email to the parents of senior class students discouraging attendance and asking for parental help.

This email has received both criticism and support. Barstool.com, a sports and men’s blog, and 94.1 WIP, the radio station sponsoring the event, have both been extremely critical of the letter. While the fact that Wing Bowl doesn’t align with the Augustinian beliefs of Malvern Prep is without question, many student are irked by the intrusion Mr. Dougherty made into their personal lives.

Will students still attend? What consequences will attending students receive? Does Jason Kelce win it all? We will have to wait and see how this situation plays out.
