Trailer Review: Captain America: Civil War

I’ve been waiting for this for so long that I stayed up way past midnight just to see the trailer.

Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr., stars of Civil War, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this past Tuesday night, and the trailer was released soon after.

Christmas came early this year for me. This is the kind of stuff I live for.

Marvel said they weren’t releasing the Civil War trailer until Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes out in December.

    They lied.

It came out early Wednesday morning and no one is complaining.

For those caught up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there may have been some vaguely familiar faces or even complete strangers in this trailer. You may have recognized William Hurt’s reprisal of General Thunderbolt Ross, who originally appeared in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk in possibly one of the greatest call-backs in history.

An unfamiliar face would be Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther. A quick bio of him: He is T’challa, king of the hidden African society known as Wakanda. Wakanda is the only place in the world where you can find “vibranium” a very expensive and strong metal. The Black Panther’s costume is made from vibranium, just like Captain America’s shield.

The premise of the comic book the movie is that the U.S. government wants all superheroes to register their identities with them. Captain America’s team believes that your identity is your business and they clash with the government’s Iron Man and friends.

On Captain America’s team will be the Winter Soldier, the Falcon, the Scarlet Witch and others.

On Iron Man’s team will be Black Widow, Vision, War Machine and others.

I say others as the full cast has yet to be named.

This battle leads to many deaths, including some large names.

The movie will not be an exact copy of the comic book. This is because Marvel does not own all the cinematic rights to every comic book character such as the X-Men.

Some notable appearances will be a new Spider-Man and Daredevil.

Yeah you read that right, Spider-Man. Everyone’s favorite wall-crawler is back with Marvel and he will be played by Tom Holland.

Notable absences will be the Hulk and Thor, who are both busy setting up Thor: Ragnarok, another Marvel movie.

This cast is so large that fans have penned the name: Avengers 2.5.

Overall, I give the trailer a 5/5 because it makes a fan out of non-fans and a superfan out of fans.

Captain America: Civil War hits theaters May 6, 2016.
    Excelsior.
