Students at Malvern have had the opportunity to attend pop-up events based on the Investopedia simulator game, a program run by Mrs. Tyoe, who guides students through the basics of investing. These sessions, held throughout the school year in various classrooms and common spaces around Malvern Prep, give students a chance to learn what the stock market is and how investing works in a hands-on way. By participating, students discover why financial understanding matters and how the Investopedia simulator helps them practice real-world decision-making without any risk.
The middle school program coordinator and moderator of this event, Mrs. Tyoe, was asked a few questions. First, she explained how Investopedia started at Malvern. She said that the stock market game has been a big interest for students in the past, which helped start the club, and it has been ongoing for over 10 years. Mrs. Tyoe was also asked how this simulator game helps students better understand investing, and how engaging in a game is more beneficial than traditional teaching methods. Tyoe stated “they can experience the highs and lows of investing, make mistakes, and learn from those mistakes without losing real money.” As Mrs. Tyoe said, this game is very low risk, which makes it really fun for students as they can explore many different companies. This course is very much a success. Mrs. Tyoe highlighted that as this course develops more, she hopes professionals from the stock market industry will come talk to our students on our campus. Overall, the Investopedia club has proven to be an engaging and effective way for students to learn real-world investing skills in a low-risk environment. With hopes of welcoming industry professionals in the future, the program continues to grow and inspire student interest in the stock market.
The Investopedia program has had a positive impact on our school’s student body by giving students a hands-on opportunity to learn important financial skills. Through the simulator, students gain a better understanding of how the stock market works, while also building critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. The program encourages students to take an active role in their learning, work collaboratively with peers, and grow more confident in making financial choices. Overall, Investopedia helps prepare students for future financial responsibilities by making learning about investing both accessible and engaging.
